|Welcome to The Colorful Chincoteague. The Colorful Chincoteague documents and researches the colors found in the Chincoteague Pony. The colors and patterns that are and have been known to exist in Chincoteague Pony breed had not been truly documented prior to The Colorful Chincoteague attempting to do so. Chincoteague color research is ongoing, as is equine color genetics in general, so this site is ever changing.
Information on colors and photos of colors that currently occur in Chincoteague Ponies are on each indivdiual page. The names of most pictured ponies can be clicked on for their pedigree, age, offspring, or more information which is located in The Chincoteague Pony Pedigree Database or the Misty of Chincoteague website Misty's Heaven.
Colors and patterns no longer found in Chincoteagues are listed as Historical Colors and ones that have not been found in the breed are under Not Found. Genetic Disorders lists the known and possible disorders than are and could be found in Chincoteagues. Neat Stuff has pictures of some unusually marked or colored ponies.
The Colorful Chincoteague is also working on documenting the many instances of other breeds being crossed into the Chincoteague Pony breed population throughout its long history. That information can be found under Outcross History.
The Colorful Chincoteague is always interested in pictures and information past and present. If you have color tested your pony The Colorful Chincoteague would love to hear the results. Color testing is somewhat uncommon in the breed, and non-existent in the feral ponies, so it would be wonderful if you considered testing your pony with one of the labs found on the Links page. If you have anything to contribute please contact The Colorful Chincoteague. Questions and other inquiries are always welcome. Many thanks to all of those who have contributed pictures and information.
Say thanks by buying me a coffee!
